results come after the initial or primary search results are listed.
The sad part is that getting listed in ODP takes almost forever so
much so that acquiring a subscription at other major directories
such as Yahoo for a fee becomes a better option.
Although you want to get on major search engines such as Yahoo! and
Google, you don’t want to snub other search engines that cater to a
niche market. If your website is about home furnishings, you would
want to link to search engines that are specific to home topics. If
it’s medical in nature, you want to try medical search engines.
Linking Up
Another viable option you could look into is getting relevant
websites so you could request for links from them and submit your
links in return. This is also known as link exchanges. Again the
important think here is that the other websites you are linking up
with are related to what your own website is all about. If you try
linking up with websites that have very little relevance to your
topic, you will just be wasting your time or even money because
search engines will not rank your site heavily in those cases.
There is a lot of work to do to get your website up to getting
ranked. You need to do a lot of researching around competitions and
see what works for them and attempt to top that instead of just
duplicating their efforts. Know which keyword phrases will get you
